WTHeck--How did I become a grief counselor?
WTH—How did I become a grief counselor in my financial practice???????
I can assure you, I constantly asked myself how I became a grief counselor before the launch of my financial practice. During the new age of COVID19, I have had a lot of advisors ask me the same question. This leads me to a bigger question, “ Sure I’m in the financial advisory business, but what business am I really in?”
Well, my path was laid out for me. Some 10 plus years later, a ton of grief, constant therapy, working with hospice patients and a dedicated financial practice. During my journey through grief, I was constantly asking WTH. Little did I know that my journey would shepherd advisors helping working with clients in grief. I definitely know that I am in the business of helping clients regain joy in life again.
I am also in the business to help advisors regain joy in the life of their practice.
When many folks enter our profession, they have no idea that grief counseling becomes part of the gig. The fact remains that if you have a client long enough, they will die. So, you are left with the quasi title of grief counselor. However, none of your professional training gives you the tools to counsel or work appropriately with clients in grief.
Most advisors suck at this part of the job, because they are very analytical and have no training in the area of grief. How can any advisor reasonably expect success when thrust into a situation where they have no experience or training working with a client who has suffered a devastaing loss. I recently found this article that describes in detail how advisors have been thrust into grief counseling as clients suffer loss after loss due to the Coronavirus--Covid turns financial advisors into grief counselors.
In grief, analytics are thrown completely out the window. However, The Advisor’s Guide to Grieving Clients can give any advisor the necessary training, tools and process to successfully work with any client in grief. If you don’t believe me see for yourself from some advisor’s who have really benefited from the training. Advisors who have benefited from the course.
